On Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s instructions, four senior ministers have been assigned to review the flood situation across five districts in South Bengal. The deployment follows a rise in water levels of rivers like Gandheswari and Dwarakeswar, leading to inundation in parts of Bankura, Howrah, Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, and Purulia. The Chief Minister held a review meeting with Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and directed evacuation of vulnerable residents and assessment of crop damage in affected blocks.
Pulak Roy has reached Udaynarayanpur in Howrah to take stock of the situation on the ground. Firhad Hakim is preparing to visit Arambagh and Goghat in Hooghly district, where floodwaters from the Dwarakeswar river have entered low-lying areas. Manas Ranjan Bhunia is already in Paschim Medinipur and is monitoring flood-hit zones there. Moloy Ghatak arrived in Purulia and is scheduled to visit Bankura later in the day.
In Ghatal subdivision of Paschim Medinipur, 33 flood relief camps have been opened for displaced families. In Howrah's Amta and Udaynarayanpur blocks, local bridges have collapsed, disrupting movement. According to officials, multiple blocks across the five districts have reported waterlogging and crop damage, and assessment reports are being compiled for further action.
